Girl Scouts Contribute to Relief Efforts Following Hurricane Sandy
Hurricane Sandy devastated portions of the Caribbean, Mid-Atlantic, Northeastern United States, and Eastern Canada in late October 2012. Sandy was the largest Atlantic hurricane on record, as measured by diameter, with winds spanning 1,100 miles.
On Saturday, October 20, 2012, troops #135, #178 and #1014 from the Peavine/Foothills service unit volunteered at the Food Bank of Northern Nevada for their Make a Difference Day Project. The girls and leaders helped pack boxes with staples, like canned tomatoes, peanut butter and rolled oats that will be distributed to seniors in the Truckee Meadows
Girl Scouts in grades 5-12 are encouraged to apply for The 2013 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards. Of all those who apply, our council will choose the top girl in grades 5-8, and the top girl in grades 9-12 to go on to the state-level of competition. The deadline to apply is November 6, 2012. The top state-level volunteers in each grade range will receive a silver medallion, a $1,000 award, and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington DC
