While the popularity of cookies comes and goes, one fact remains the same. All net proceeds support Girl Scouting locally, no money is sent to the national organization. A portion of the proceeds remains with the council to help recruit and train volunteers, maintain campsites and support council-wide programs. Cookie Program income also helps us provide camp scholarships and financial assistance to troops with girls from low-income families and neighborhoods.
The remainder of the earnings goes directly to the Girl Scout troops. The Girl Scout Cookie Program is one of the few programs in the country to let youth decide how to direct proceeds from their business activity. Troops use their money for camp outings, field trips, community service projects and other activities. Giving girls decision-making over financial goal setting, budgeting and spending is an invaluable and empowering experience.
