Get ready to do great things!
Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada is committed to the vision founder Juliette Gordon Low had over 100 years ago; all girls should have leadership development opportunities to enable them to become productive members of our community who will make a positive and lasting impact. Girl Scouts is, and always has been, the organization best positioned to offer girls the tools they need to be successful leaders. Volunteer led troops are the backbone of that traditional Girl Scout experience. More than 89 percent of girls in our region are supported by volunteer troop leaders. We strive to provide exceptional troop experiences to girls and their volunteer leaders.
Through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, girls DISCOVER what they can do, learn to CONNECT with others and TAKE ACTION to improve the world around them. This is how we build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.
Steeped in tradition, volunteer troops are the heart of Girl Scouting. Troops plan many different types of activities. While using the Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting Handbook and the Journey books, girls can choose different badges or special awards to earn. Some activities may involve field trips, camping trips, and service projects that benefit their local neighborhoods and communities.
Each girl and adult helping with the troop pays a $12 annual membership fee. The fee goes directly to Girl Scouts of the USA for program development and activity insurance. No portion of the membership fee stays within the local council. Scholarships are available for girls and adults who need financial assistance in order to participate in the Girl Scout Program.
