Girl Scouting 101

Girl Scouting 101 is a presentation from GSUSA and is your first step to Girl Scouting! Learn more about volunteering with Girl Scouts and the basics of the new Girl Scout Leadership Experience before attending a Troop Leadership workshop.

To participate:

1. Go to GSUSA’s online volunteer development
2. Click on “Girl Scouting 101”
3. Enter the following password: aboutGS101  (Note: the password is case sensitive.)
4. When asked for your council name, scroll down to Sierra Nevada

Troop Leadership

A workshop for New Girl Scout Leaders - No Fee

Troop Leadership is the first in-person, volunteer learning workshop for troop leaders, assistant leaders and parent helpers who have completed their application process.

Haven’t started the application process to become a volunteer? Take the first step!

Troop Leadership must be taken by at least one leader or other volunteer before starting to work with girls. Participants learn the basic knowledge needed to get started with their troop including:

• Forming a troop committee
• Holding a parent/guardian first meeting
• Planning and holding troop meetings
• Basic information about safety and troop finances
• Available support options and resources

In Reno/Sparks, Troop Leadership workshops are held at the GSSN Council Service Center every first Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and third Wednesday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. of the month. However, during holidays and special Girl Scout programming and events the trainings may not be available. Please be sure to check the Event & Training calendar and fill out a training registration form before attending.

Additional dates and locations outside Reno/Sparks may be offered. Please contact your membership specialist to inquire about this option. ​​​​​
