    Activities
    • What Camping opportunities are available for 2013?

      Camping opportunities ​include Resident Camp, Day Camp, Hike the Tahoe Rim Trail, and leadership opportunities for girls entering grades 1-12 in the fall.

    • What is staying at Camp Wasiu II like?

      Camp Wasiu II is located in Tahoe National Forest high in the Sierra Nevada near Sierra City, California.  At Camp Wasiu II campers live in platform tents in units of 8-25 girls and 2-4 staff.  Facilities include a beautiful swimming pool, a new challenge course, hiking trails, a premier star-viewing area and equipment, a pristine lake within walking distance, flushing toilets and showers with hot water, and a large indoor dining hall/recreation area.

       

    • What can campers do at camp?

      ​Depending on the camp, the age of the camper, and staffing expertise general camp activities may include swimming, canoeing, archery, stargazing, hiking, badge work, campfires, singing, games, crafts, challenge course, cookouts and field trips.  Campers may work towards badges, patches, or Journey awards.  Activities are geared to the age level of the camper and are contingent upon the weather.  Each camper will receive a "Badge Documentation" sheet that lists any badge requirements that were completed at camp. 

    Camp Staff
    • Tell me about the camp staff.

      Camp personnel are enthusiastic, talented and caring adults who are selected based on their skills and experience, ability to serve as positive role models, and their genuine desire to work with children.  Camp staff comes from across the nation, as well as from around the world.  Having this diverse of world microcosm at camp gives the campers an opportunity to be exposed to different cultures and ideas in a safe, sharing, inquisitive, and inclusive environment. 

    • What training do camp staff receive?
      All camp personnel receive extensive training prior to the arrival of campers.  Training includes age-appropriate activity programming, outdoor skills, songs, games, team building, childhood development, handling homesickness, and more.  In addition, camp personnel are trained in safety and emergency procedures.  Our health, waterfront, and food staff are all certified or licensed in accordance with local, state, and federal agencies; the American Camping Association; GSSN, and GSUSA.
    Camper Contact
    • How can I contact my camper at camp?

      You will be provided with emergency contact information if you need to contact your camper in the event of an emergency.  All camper contact goes throught the camp director.  You will be able to keep in touch with your camper through notes left with their counselor at check-in, through letters sent through the postal service and through Bunk1.com. 

      Bunk1.com is a secure, easy to use, summer website service that lets you stay in touch with your camper through daily one-way email while your camper is at camp!

    • May I visit Camp Wasiu II?

      ​Parents and campers who want to visit Camp Wasiu II are encouraged to join us at the Camp Wasiu II Open House, Saturday, June 22, 2013, 11:00am-2:00pm.  Visitors are also allowed to participate in supervised tours of the camp 30 minutes before check-in begins on the first day of each session.  For the safety and security of the campers, visitors are not allowed on-site at any other time while camp in is session, with the exception of approved volunteers.  We have found that a visit from family or friends can cause homesickness, not just for your camper but for other campers as well.  Contact Paula Cady by email at pcady@gssn.org if you would like to apply to volunteer at camp.

    • May I visit Summer Day Camp?

      ​For the safety and security of the campers and the continuity of programming, visitors are not allowed to visit campers while camp in is session, with the exception of approved volunteers.  Contact Paula Cady by email at pcady@gssn.org if you would like to apply to volunteer at camp.

       

    Confirmation Materials
    • When will I receive confirmation materials?

      New this year! All confirmation materials and required camp form are available on-line after March 1, 2013 on the Forms and Session Information page. Please note that confirmation materials will not be mailed or emailed.

       

    Health and Safety
    • Tell me about the health and safety processes at camp.

      Health and safety are the number one priorities of each and every camp staff member.  All camp personnel receive extensive training prior to the arrival of campers.  Camp personnel are trained in safety and emergency procedures.  The camp meets all established standards for health, safety, site, program, and personnel as set by local, state, and federal governments, GSUSA, and GSSN.  Our facility is required to pass annual health inspections and is licensed by the state. For the safety and security of the campers, visitors are not allowed on-site while camp in is session without the approval of the camp director.

       

    • What health forms do I have to send with my camper to camp?

      Each camper is required to submit a completed health history and medication release form, which can be found on our Forms and Session Information page, and undergo a quick health check by the camp staff to assure that all campers are in good health at check-in.  The forms will be kept on file with the camp nurse for the duration of the camp session. 

       

       

    • Will my camp need a physical examination to attend camp?

      For campers attending camp for more than three nights, a physical examination by a licensed medical professional must have occurred within 24 months prior to attending camp and is included on the health history form, which can be found on the Forms and Session Information page.

    • What are the qualifications of the health/medical staff?

      All camp sessions have a qualified Health Manager on-site and a doctor on-call at all times.  All medication is securely stored in the Health Hut and administered by the Health Manager (including all over-the-counter and prescribed medications).  Camp has a more-than-adequate supply of over-the-counter medications that will be administered with a parent's/guardian's written permission.  Parents/guardians will be notified in the event of an emergency.   

       

    • What if my camper needs medical attention?

      All camp sessions have a qualified Health Manager on-site and a doctor on-call at all times.  All medication is securely stored in the Health Hut and administered by the Health Manager (including all over-the-counter and prescribed medications).  Camp has a more-than-adequate supply of over-the-counter medications that will be administered with a parent's/guardian's written permission.  Parents/guardians will be notified in the event of an emergency. 

       

    Meals
    • What will my camper be eating at camp?

      ​We provide healthy meals and snacks at camp.  Menu planning is supervised by a licensed nutritionist and meals are prepared by our trained kitchen staff.  Examples of a typical day's meals include a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, fruit, cold cereal, milk, and juice; a lunch of a taco bar, full salad bar and milk; and a supper of spaghetti, garlic bread, green beans, full salad bar, and dessert.  A vegetarian option is available for every meal.  Special diets (gluten-free, etc.) must be noted on the registration and health history forms and may be accommodated on an individual basis with a four-week notification to pcady@gssn.org.  Meals are served family-style in the dining hall.  Some meals may include cookouts, barbeques, or sack lunches.

    Refunds/Transfer Policy
    • What is the refund/transfer policy?

      ​Refunds are made only under specific circumstances.  See the Registration Information page for details on the camp refund/transfer policy.

       

    Registration
    • Who can attend camp?

      Any girl who is in the appropriate grade for her selected sessions can attend any camp opportunity, even if she is not a Girl Scout. (An annual $12 registration fee will be added to the camp fee for any girl who is not currently registered as a Girl Scout at time of camp registration.)

       

    • When can I register for summer opportunities?

      You can register any time after March 1, 2013

       

    • How do I register?

      ​All the information you need to register your camper can be found on the Registration Information page.

       

    • How do I apply for financial assistance?
      We want any girl who wants the camp experience to be able to attend and not held back by financial constraints.  For Financial Assistance information see the Registration Information page.

       

    • What if the Camp Wasiu II session I requested is full?

      The best way to prevent not getting in the session you requested is to register early!  See the Registration Information page for more information on full sessions.

       

    • When will I know the status of my camper's registration?

      You will be notified of your camper’s status by email within two (2) weeks of the registration being received at the GSSN Service Center. The status of your camper’s placement cannot be confirmed over the telephone.

       

    • How can my camper be in the same unit as her friend?

      Your camper may request to be with one special friend in the same unit if both campers:

      • register for the same program
      • request each other on the registration form
      • submit both registrations together in the same envelope

      Placement cannot be guaranteed.

       

    Transportation
    • Is transportation available?

      ​Bus transportation will be available to and from Reno, NV and Truckee, CA for the Sunday check-ins and Friday check-outs at Camp Wasiu II for a $30 each-way fee.  Transportation must be requested on the registration form and paid in full at the time of registration.  Families can also choose to drive their camper to and from camp.

    • What volunteer opportunities are available at camp?
