 Camp

Taking Leadership to the Outdoors

Camping is a great way for girls to explore leadership, build skills, and develop a deep appreciation for nature. Whether they go for a day, a week, or longer, Girl Scout camp gives girls an opportunity to grow, explore, and have fun in a safe environment under the guidance of caring, trained adults. Every girl deserves a chance to camp!

Camp Experiences at Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada

GSSN's Resident Camp, Camp Wasiu II, is for girls who are going into grades 1-12 in the fall.  Girls live at camp for three to six days and nights (the average is five nights) in an established outdoor setting. Girls sign up as individual campers or go with a buddy. The girls and their counselors plan activities, taking advantage of the outdoor resources available at Camp Wasiu II.

Summer Adventure Day Camp is for girls going into grades 1-6 in the fall.  Day Camp is an opportunity for girls to experience camp life and make new friends without having to travel too far from home. Girls may sign up as individual campers or go with buddies. The girls and staff plan and carry out outdoor activities, including an overnight campout for older girls.

Weekend Camp is for girls going into grades 1-6 in the fall and typically lasts for three days and two nights. Some weekend resident camp experiences at Camp Wasiu II are designed for younger girls and include a girl's significant adult and staff with program expertise—a good choice for girls and adults who may want support with their camp experience.  Other weekend camp experiences are planned and carried out by a group of girls, without a significant adult, and camp staff to give girls a fun away-from-home first experience at camp.

Troop Camp is an opportunity for troops with Daisies through Ambassadors, to enjoy all that Camp Wasiu II has to offer. The camping site, sleeping accommodation, meals, pool activities, and first-aider are all provided and our international staff will offer some limited programming.  With the guidance of their troop leaders, the girls in each troop plan and implement their own programming and make it an individualized camping experience.

Backpacking is a chance for girls to completely unplug and reconnect with their natural environment.  GSSN is offering girls entering grades 6-8 the opportunity to hike the Tahoe Rim Trail for four days and three nights while they earn the GSSN Tahoe Rim Trail patch.
