BASIC QUESTIONS:
What
is Camp Wasiu II?
Located
high in the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains near Sierra
City, California, Camp Wasiu II gives girls the opportunity
to be away from home for a safe two- to five-night camping
experience. Campers live in platform tents in units of 8-24
girls and 2-4 staff.
Who can attend camp?
Any
girl can attend Camp Wasiu II, even if she is not a Girl
Scout. (A $15 registration fee will be added to the
resident camp fee for any girl who is not registered as a
Girl Scout.)
Is
transportation available?
Transportation to and from camp is available from Reno, NV,
and Truckee, CA. Families can also choose to drive their
child to camp.
What
kind of food is served at camp?
We
provide healthy meals and snacks at camp. Menu planning is
supervised by a licensed nutritionist and meals are prepared
by our trained kitchen staff. Special diets (as noted on
the health form) may be accommodated on an individual
basis. Meals are served family-style in the dining hall.
Some meals may include cookouts, barbeques, or sack lunches
May
I visit camp?
We ask
that parents/guardians not visit their campers at camp. We
have found that a visit from home causes homesickness, not
just for your camper but also for other campers. We
encourage campers and their families to come to the Open
House to see the camp together. Open House for Camp Wasiu
II is Saturday, June 28, 2008, from 11:00 am-2:00 pm. At
that time come meet the staff, check out the camp store, and
tour the camp! During camp, if you have concerns regarding
your camper, the camp staff will be happy to check on her
and let you know how she is adjusting to camp.
REGISTRATION:
How
do I register?
-
Select the program(s) your daughter wants to attend.
-
Complete the Resident Camp Registration Form available
at the
Camp Registration
and submit the completed form by mail, fax, on-line, or
in person.
-
Send a $95 deposit with each camp registration form you
submit. Checks must be payable to Girl Scouts of the
Sierra Nevada. (There will be a service charge for all
returned checks.)
-
If
you are requesting financial assistance, complete the
Financial Assistance Form available at the
Campership
and submit it in with your registration.
-
If
your daughter plans to attend more than one session, a
separate registration form and $95 deposit are required
for each session.
What
is the camp program I requested is full?
You
will be notified if the camp program you requested is full.
If you listed a second choice, and space is available, your
daughter will be placed in that program.
Can
my daughter be in the same unit as her friends?
Your
daughter may request to be with one special
friend in the same unit if her friend also registers for the
same program and requests to be with your daughter. For
this request to be considered, both girls' registration
forms must be mailed together in the same envelope. Every
effort will be made to honor the request; however, we cannot
guarantee placement of girls in the same unit.
When
is final payment of any outstanding camp fee balance due?
If the
total camp fee was not made at the time of registration,
any outstanding balance is due to
the Service Center four (4) weeks prior to the camper’s
first day of camp. If payment is not received by
this date, your camper’s spot at camp will be forfeited. If
you are using cookie credits mail the form in with your
invoice. To discuss payment plan options contact the Camp
Registrar. Payments may be made by check, money order,
VISA, or MasterCard.
Is
financial aid available?
Financial aid is available and considered on a case-by-case
basis. A completed Financial Assistance Form must be
submitted with the Resident Camp Registration Form for
financial aid to be considered.
REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION:

When
is my daughter's registration confirmed?
A
registration is considered confirmed as soon as it is placed
into the Council's computer system.
How
will I know that my daughter is registered?
Allow
at least two weeks to receive confirmation of your
registration. Upon confirmation you will receive a
confirmation packet with important camp information and the
forms required for camp participation.
REFUND POLICY:
What
is your refund policy?
If the
requested program is full and no alternative is acceptable,
or if the financial aid amount requested is not fully
granted, then the total amount sent in with the registration
will be refunded.
After a
registration is confirmed, a refund requested in writing
more than four weeks prior to the camper’s first day of camp
will be granted minus the $95 deposit. If a written request
is received less than four weeks prior to the camper’s first
day of camp, a portion of the camp registration fee (minus
the $95 deposit) will be refunded only if:

only at the request of the parent).
