SUMMER ADVENTURE DAY CAMP SESSIONS

 

Summer Adventure Day Camp has been in the Reno/Sparks community for over eight years. As the only all girl day camp we are definitely unique. Any girl can participate in Summer Adventure Day Camp, even if they are not a Girl Scout.

 

Here are this year's Summer Adventure Day Camp sessions - choose your summer adventure!

 


SESSIONS

 

WEEK 1: JOURNEYS AROUND THE WORLD

June 8-12, 2009

 

Pack your imaginary suitcase, DISCOVER more about yourself  and your community through world games. Go on an around the world treasure hunt where you will CONNECT with others, experiencing different cultures, their clothing and languages, and taste new foods, then TAKE ACTION with a community service project to help make the world a better place!

 

 

 

Badge Focus:  Work towards earning the Travel Right, Caring and Sharing, People of the World, and Citizen Near and Far, My Community, Celebrating People, and Globe Trotting.

 

WEEK 2: THE SOUNDS OF MUSIC: A GIRL SCOUT MUSICAL

June 15-19, 2009

 

So, you want to be rock star?  Then this week of camp is instrumental! Explore the difference music has made on our world while making simple instruments, take note of the sounds of nature, listen to and learn fun dance steps to popular music such as pop, rock and roll, country, disco, hip-hop and more.  Exercise your creative thinking while composing your own music!  Girls will enjoy guest musician performances and trying various instruments along with a spectacular end of week Girl Scout Musical performance for friends and family featuring the sounds of the Cheetah Girls and dance steps from BYOU2. Girl Scouts will rock the house!

 

Badge Focus:  Work towards earning the Creative Composing, Dancercise, Sounds of Music, Making Music, and Music Fan.

 

WEEK 3: UNDER THE BIG TOP

June 22-26, 2009

 

Yes, there will be clowning around! View the Chinese acrobats during their practice session at Circus Circus. Clown around with Cuddles the Clown, learn magic tricks, juggling, jokes, and balloon art!  A special tumble workshop will be instructed by Starz Gym.  Girls will have the opportunity to make masks, puppets, create and play carnival games, and have a silly amount of fun in the sun.  Show off your sports skills, stunts and routines as your act comes to life during the end of week circus performance! 

 

Badge Focus:  Work towards earning the Puppets, Dolls and Plays, My Body, Girl Sports, and Fun & Fit.

 

WEEK 4: COOL & CRAFTY CREATIONS

June 29-July 3, 2009

 

Try your hand at creating unique water colors, textiles, three dimensional art, clay sculptures, and make a glittery keepsake box. Got a passion for fashion?  Learn the history of how clothing reflects the culture and lifestyles of people from other countries and how to create garments and accessories that are just your style.  Transform an old favorite T-shirt, tank top, sweatshirt or socks into really cool looking new ones by sewing buttons, beads and charms on them! Girl Scouts will show off their creations at end of week fashion show boutique for family and friends!

 

Badge Focus:  Work towards earning the Art in the Home, Art in 3-D, Art to Wear, Sew Simple and Stitch It Together.

 

WEEK 5: TAKE A WALK ON THE WILDSIDE

July 6-10, 2009

 

This will be an animal lovers dream come true! Learn about the  popular Blue Footed Booby’s and Jaguars of the Galapagos Islands,  the endangered  Chimpanzee of Africa and Snow Leopards of Asia  and even domesticated animals and pets too as we explore our world’s wildlife.  Play animal charades; build a topiary animal garden, taste veggies, fruits, nuts and grains that animals eat!  Participate in a Nevada Department of Wildlife workshop. Go on a safari during the tour of the unique nature trails at Rancho San Rafael Park which features abundant native wildlife! 

 

Badge Focus:  Work towards earning Animals, Wild Life, Plants and Animals, Earth Connections, Finding Your Way, and Outdoor Creativity.

 

WEEK 6: UNIQUELY ME!

July 13-17, 2009

 

This is your place to be a shining star!  Tap your feet, strut your stuff and boogie to the groove while discovering the unique individual that you are.  Acting, modeling and dancing workshops by industry professionals give girls an opportunity to learn about goal setting, peer pressure, and stress reduction. Girls will work together to create, choreograph and execute their own end of week production in which they will be able to share what makes them “UNIQUELY ME.”  Find out that there is no right or wrong in being UNIQUE!

 

Badge Focus:  Work towards earning Being My Best, Theater, and  Dancercise.

TIME

Summer Adventure Day Camp is open for your convenience from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday. Girls may arrive and be picked up at any time, with communication to the staff. Activities run from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Before and after care is included in the day camp fee!

 


AGES

Summer Adventure Day Camp is available to all girls in grades 1-6. Girls who are not yet a Girl Scout may join us and become a member of the Greatest organization for girls.

 


COST

ALL weeks are $120 per girl each week they attend day camp.

 

*Note -

Program Aides are $35 per girl each week they attend day camp.

A $10 registration fee will be added to the fee for any girl who isn't already a Girl Scout.

Best Friend Discount available when two girls are registering together for the same week. Please submit registration forms together to receive discount.
