Salaries are less than I would make working retail so what
are the benefits of working at Camp Wasiu II?
Get paid twice monthly (see the “Positions
Available” for salaries);
Receive free room, board, and
health/accident insurance (valued at $150/week);
Live and work in the out-of-doors in a
national forest in the Sierra Nevada; and
Build a very impressive résumé.
(Resident camp employees also have greater take-home pay at
the end of the summer because there are fewer opportunities
to spend their hard-earned money while at camp.)
Can I complete an internship while at camp?
The resident camp environment is a great
place to work on an internship in a variety of fields and
you get paid! Talk with your academic advisor about
specific requirements at your school then contact us for

Where
is Camp Wasiu II located?
Camp Wasiu II is located in the Lakes
Basin Recreation Area high in the Sierra Nevada between
Sierra City and Graeagle, California, approximately 1.5
hours northwest of Reno, Nevada.

Complete the information at the top of the
enclosed reference forms and give the forms to at least
three people not related to or living with you who have
direct knowledge of your qualifications for the position(s)
for which you are applying (former employers, previous camp
supervisors, religious leaders, teachers, or leaders of
other youth-serving groups). Remind your references that
promptness is important. Have your references mail or fax
the completed form directly to the Girl Scout Service
Center as printed above. It is recommended that you attach a
stamped, addressed envelope to the reference as it may
encourage a prompt response.
Once your completed application and three
reference forms are received, you will be contacted via
phone or e-mail to schedule an in-person or telephone
interview.
What should I know before I apply?
Physical requirements: Applicants need to be physically able to handle strenuous
activity at high altitude (6,000 feet) and on rocky
terrain.
Living arrangements: You will be living in platform tents on cots with
mattresses with 2-3 of your co-workers for nine to ten
weeks. This requires respect, consideration, and
flexibility. The bathhouses have flushing toilets, hot
showers, and electricity. Staff have access to staff
bathrooms and lounges that have electricity as well as phone
and Internet access. Laundry facilities are located on the
premises.
Time off:
Staff will have two hours off each full day of work and 24
hours off every 10-12 days.
Tobacco Products:
The use of tobacco products is allowed only in one
designated area at camp and only during time off. The fire
risk is high and we are role models to young women, so this
policy is strictly adhered to.
Alcohol and Drug Use:
Alcoholic beverages, narcotic and hallucinogenic
drugs are not permitted on the camp site at any time.
Illegal drug use while at camp or returning to camp while
under the influence will result in immediate dismissal and,
in appropriate cases, will be reported to the local
authorities.
Personal appearance: Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada and Camp Wasiu II expects that staff
will maintain a neat and well-groomed appearance. The camp
administration feels that personal appearance is important
in establishing confident relationships between campers,
parents, and co-workers. GSSN operates with a hair and
dress code of moderation and no extremes. Logos and slogans
on personal clothing should be consistent with the values
and objectives of camp. All body art is to be covered while
at camp and all visible body piercings shall be posts to
avoid injury. Any concerns or clarifications of our
personal appearance standard should be discussed and
resolved during the interview process.
Length of stay:
If you accept the position with Girl
Scouts of the Sierra Nevada, you will be expected to live
and work at Camp Wasiu II for the entire camp season (see
the “Positions Available” for dates).
