In partnership with the Reno Bike Project (RBP), Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada has initiated the Build Your Own Bike program to promote independence, health and wellness, and STEM education. Together, we are empowering girls by encouraging them to grow mentally and physically, proving nothing is impossible with hard work.
Through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE), the Major Taylor/Bike Repair Program and Bicycle Repair Classes, girls have experienced cooperative learning, leadership development, practical life skills application, problem solving methods development, critical thinking and mechanical/engineering basics.
These ROCstar Girl Scouts have participated in destination group-rides to local outdoor gems, such as: Horseman's Park, Hidden Valley Regional Park, Steamboat Ditch Trail, Rock Park, and Mayberry Crossing Park.
The value of an active and outdoor experience in a girl's life is beyond measure. We are grateful to the Reno Orthopaedic Clinic and the ROCares Foundation for their support and grant investment in this valuable partnership program encouraging girls to take the lead.
(If your girl is interested in participating in a future Build Your Own Bike program, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more about program eligibility, which includes age and school limitations.)
