Take it and go. Girl Scouts are all about taking action.
Over 3,000
girls from varied locations, races/ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds
shared their hopes, dreams, and fears about what’s important to them. The
findings are reflected in the Girl Scout Research Institute study New
Directions for Girls 11-17. This data supported the development of a new way
for preteen girls to become who they want to be, belong to a safe
place, express what they believe, and build a better world. It’s
by girls, for girls. Here are a few things girls had to say:
“Being a teen can
be crazy. Sometimes you may feel uncertain and other times you feel as if you
could conquer the world!”
“You want a place
to talk about life and real issues.”
“Finding
your own style is just as important as finding inner peace.”
“Sometimes you
need a quiet space to just be and other times you want to experiment, explore,
create and discover the world.”
HOW
DO YOU STUDIO 2B?
Start
with the STUDIO 2B Resources Series.
STUDIO
2B Basics is the core
book girls can carry with them to help plan, connect, and do.
The
STUDIO 2B Collection books address the distinct needs, interests,
worries, likes, and dislikes of girls ages 11-13, 13-15, and 15-17. Each book
contains celebrity interviews, first-person accounts, quizzes, advice columns,
and activity ideas.
STUDIO
2B Focus books are
hands-on, skill-based, practical materials centered around different activities.
Once completed, either individually or in a group, there’s a STUDIO 2B charm
representing their efforts and newly acquired skills.

The
STUDIO 2B Web site,
www.studio2b.org, is where girls can submit stories, send Web-Mail, read
feature articles about their world, and get advice about topics that are
important to them.

5 KEY
MESSAGES:
STUDIO 2B,
launched in October 2002, is the way girls 11-17 want to make Girl Scouts part
of their lives, according to nationwide research. STUDIO 2B is facilitated by
adult advisors to whom girls can relate. This new approach gives girls
flexibility, fun and tailor-made experiences that reflect their unique interests
and schedules.
1. STUDIO 2B is Girl
Scouts for girls 11-17, with a focus on accommodating their busy schedules and
increased responsibilities as they grow into adulthood.
2. Girls in STUDIO 2B
decide what activities they’re interested in and want to explore, and use STUDIO
2B Focus books to learn about self-defense, health and fitness, careers and
other topics.
3. The “B’s” in STUDIO
2B are the four Girl Scout Program goals as teen and pre-teens worded them.

“BECOME”
– identify and embrace their strengths

“BELONG”
– part
of a fun group of peers they feel safe around

“BELIEVE”
– talk
about what’s important to them

“BUILD”
– take
action in areas where they want to make a difference
4. Adults of all ages,
who can relate to girls, share their experiences and help facilitate activities
girls choose to do, are needed as Advisors in STUDIO 2B.
5. Studio2B.org is an
online place where girls 11-17 find out how other girls feel and are making a
difference, gain perspective on issues that arise as they grow into adulthood,
Web-Mail, share stories, and read the latest on relationships, style, and travel.
