Monkeys, Volcanoes, and Ziplining, Oh My!

Eleven GSSN Girl Scouts, now savvy international travelers, just returned from an amazing 10-day trip through Costa Rica, and what an experience they had! These adventurers were on the go every day from very early in the morning until late at night, living what Costa Rican's call "Pura Vida!" or "pure life".

Activities included: visiting an active volcano, swimming below a waterfall, kayaking, visiting an organic farm, relaxing in natural hot springs, visiting a local 27-student school, planting indigenous trees at a reserve, taking dance lessons, horseback riding in a monsoon, zip lining through and above a cloud forest, going on a cloud forest night hike, boating through an estuary/mangrove swamp, spending an entire day at a beautiful Pacific Ocean beach, painting historic ox cart designs on personal medallions, whitewater rafting; and hiking through cloud forests, rain forests, and transitional forests!

It was like living in a zoo without cages as the explorers got up close and personal with monkeys (howler, squirrel, and capuchin), iguanas, geckos, crocodiles, sloths (two- and three-toed), raccoons, exotic birds, snakes, big insects, and breath-taking butterflies. Our international trekkers saw geologic marvels, experienced different types of habitats and foliage, ate great local food, met many nice people, were swept up in the World Cup, and absorbed as much of the Costa Rican culture as possible.

If you are interested in where GSSN's adventurers will go next, be sure to participate in a survey that will be sent out via email and watch for up-to-date information in the Essentials. Pura Vida!
