The Nevada Mining Association (NVMA) and Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada (GSSN) will be co-hosting a celebration for their “Mining in Today’s World” patch program on June 12, 2021 in Elko, NV.
The event will consist of virtual and in-person events and activities. The virtual portion of the day features a “Meet the Miners” panel, running from 10 AM to 12 PM. Attendees will be able to hear from women currently working in mining and ask them questions. The event is open to Girl Scouts of all ages and is free of charge, but registration is required.
In-person activities will be held at the Elko Scout House from 1 PM to 2:30 PM. Girls K-12 will explore – through a variety of fun, hands-on, interactive activities – the importance of mining in our everyday lives, the wide variety of STEM careers available in mining, and social and environmental topics surrounding the industry. Girls will receive mining-related STEM resources to take home, as well as GSSN's Mining in Today's World patch. There is a $5 charge to attend the in-person event.
The in-person activities will include:
