Hello! My name is Daria Horn and I am proud to introduce myself as the new Regional Manager- Eastern area, with Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada. My homebase will be in Elko but will be traveling throughout rural Nevada to engage with communities to provide support for new troops, rebuild and grow existing troops, and recruit and engage volunteers.
I have been an Elko resident for over 20 years, raising my daughter here, and have gained strong community ties across rural Nevada. I am an Elko High School and Great Basin College graduate, earning my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. Before joining the GSSN team, I worked in the Career and Technical Education department at the local college, spent time working in K-8 classrooms throughout the county, and 10 years at a local high school working closely with historically underserved teenagers, community members, and families. Applying my experience as a student, community member, parent, and educator has strengthened my ability to support rural Nevadans and provide my endless ideas and contacts to support and expand the Girl Scout mission.
I am passionate about my belief that educating girls makes it possible for them to grow up and become empowered women. The Girl Scouts provide all our girls unique opportunities to learn gain a strong sense of self, and positive values, seek and experience challenges, build healthy relationships, and community problem-solving. I am fortunate to be a part of an organization that helps our girls unlock their true potential. It’s incredibly gratifying when we work together as a community for our kids.
