Funding Priorities
Thank you for your interest in Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada.
Our mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. As the preeminent leadership development organization for girls, Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada is committed to giving all girls in our community the tools they need to become Go-getters, Innovators, Risk-takers, and Leaders. The results continue to prove that girls who join Girl Scouts develop leadership skills, have positive values, and most importantly, have an appreciation for their own potential and self-worth.
This is what you can make happen with a grant of $1,000 to $10,000:
A grant of $1,000 … supports S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) programming for girls in our Council-led Troop Program.
A grant of $2,500 … Supports a Council-Led Troop of 10 girls for 1 year
Our current funding priorities are:
- Council-Led Troop Program: Council-Led Troops address barriers to participation by having troops led by council staff. This allows us to expand the reach of Girl Scouts to all girls in Northern Nevada. Council-Led Troops participate in all of the same types of activities as a Volunteer-Led Troop, following the National Program Portfolio. Girl Scouts in these troops will earn badges in STEM, Outdoors, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship, work on higher award projects, and participate in the cookie program, while making friends that last a lifetime! Through these activities girls gain courage, confidence, and character.
- Outdoor Programs: GSSN's outdoor programs allow Girl Scouts to develop a strong sense of self and positive values, build healthy relationships, seek challenges, and have fun while making memories of a lifetime! Whether you love archery, forest trails, beautiful lakes, or pretty much anything outdoors, our council has you covered. We are grateful to live in an area with fantastic opportunities for outdoor exploration and we are always adding more ways for Girl Scouts and their families to engage with nature.
- Girl Scouts S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Leadership Journeys and Badges: We’d like every girl to explore different aspects of STEM every year, so we’ve developed a unique, “fun with purpose” K-12 curriculum to inspire girls to embrace and celebrate scientific discovery in their lives.
